AI Compliance

What Is AI Compliance? The Simple Definition

AI compliance involves an organization understanding the legal and regulatory obligations of its AI systems and demonstrating compliance. For example, companies that use AI models for employment in New York City are required to comply with Local Law 144.

The Technical Definition

AI Compliance refers to the adherence of artificial intelligence systems to established legal frameworks, ethical guidelines, and industry standards.

AI Compliance ensures that AI systems operate transparently, fairly, and without bias, and that they protect user privacy and data security. This can include adhering to regulations regarding data protection (such as GDPR in Europe), ensuring the AI system does not discriminate against certain groups of people, and ensuring the decisions made by AI systems can be explained and understood by humans.

Explain It Like I’m Five

Imagine you have a very smart robot that can do a lot of things. AI compliance is like a set of rules to ensure this robot is good and plays fairly. It’s like when you play a game, and there are rules so that everyone has fun and no one cheats.

So, AI Compliance makes sure the robot:

Plays Fair: It treats everyone the same way and doesn’t pick favorites.
Listens to Grown-Up Rules: Just like you have rules at home and in school, the robot follows big rules made by grown-ups about what it can and can’t do.
Explains What It Does: If the robot does something, it can tell you why, just like how you explain why you built a tall tower with your blocks.

Use It At The Water Cooler

How to use “AI Compliance” in a sentence at work:

“After implementing the new software system, our team is now conducting a thorough review to ensure AI compliance, making certain that all automated processes adhere to the industry standards and legal regulations.”
